Chilli

The field is set up before the seedlings arrive: well-rotted cow dung, the basal dose and PSR Granules go in about ten days ahead, so the root zone is ready at transplanting. Chilli will not stand waterlogging, and poor drainage now invites wilt and root rot later.

The plant builds its canopy and the forked branch frame that will carry every flower, and the roots spread. Nutrient demand climbs fast, and so does sucking-pest pressure through these weeks.

Buds form at the branch forks and the flowers pollinate themselves. Heat, hot dry wind, water stress or heavy rain all make the plant shed buds and flowers, so keep soil moisture steady; flower thrips feed inside the bloom.

Fertilised flowers hold and the young fruit expand fast, with potassium and calcium demand rising. Heat just after pollination can still stop the set, and die-back, powdery mildew and bacterial leaf spot build from flowering on; the fungal ones are a question for your farm specialist.

Green picking begins and the plant keeps flowering and setting between pickings, so every flush needs the same care. Ripe-fruit rot and late mites are the threats; feed steadily through the picking weeks.
